The getting there (an introduction)

Finally got pictures from my camera (and my mom's and brother's camera) to my computer! So, my goal over the next few days will be to take you along with us on our journey to Mali. Let's go :)

Here we are in DFW before our 4 hour flight to D.C. and then 8 hours to Dakar, Senegal:

We arrived in Dakar, Senegal at 6 in the morning...making for a really long day! But we did get to enjoy breakfast on the beach of the Atlantic ocean:

From Dakar it was about a 12 hour drive to Kedougou, which is clear on the other side of Senegal....on the East side, about 4 hours from Mali (stars are on the map for your viewing convenience).

When we finally got to Kedougou, we stayed at the mission guest house with New Tribes Missions...

The guest house was on a hill and there was a great view of the river...women washing clothes, people washing their cars...they got an early start. It was serene.

This is our driver, Wouri. He knew everybody everywhere and he had his goofy moments. He spoke many languages and limited English. Kendrick was able to speak more with him using his awesome French!

The first part of the trip was all a blur. We were tired and slept most of the way, with random interruptions to fill the car up with gas, eat, and finding a "happy bush" for bathroom breaks. I had no idea that the flight across the ocean would be the shortest part of the whole trip--travelling played a huge role! So far, the roads were mostly paved, just loooong. But we had only just begun...

More to come!

Oh I'm so excited to see your pictures and hear your story! Dakar is where I went on my first international mission trip ever for three weeks in college...the pictures bring back so many memories. And wow - I think the farthest we ever traveled by car was five hours...twelve would certainly be a long trip! I can't wait to read more and see the amazing ways God was at work! :)
